An opening is an assembly, not a door.

Carries the leaf and transfers its load into the wall. Profile and anchoring change with the wall condition — masonry, stud or existing opening.

Engineered structural integrity for the specific wall condition, so the opening still operates in year fifteen.

Vision lite

Door louver

Moves air between spaces while keeping sight lines and security intact — cut into the leaf and framed back into the assembly.

Perimeter seals

Close the gap around the leaf — head, jambs and meeting edges — controlling air, light and sound movement through the opening.

The gap is where openings underperform. Sealing it is the cheapest performance you can specify.

Threshold

Closes the opening at the floor and manages water, air and thermal transfer at the one edge that meets the outside directly.

A thermal break at the sill is what stops condensation showing up on a Maritime job in February.

The sliding assembly.

Not every opening swings. A sliding leaf is carried overhead rather than hinged, which moves the engineering into the track and the pocket — and removes the threshold entirely. Select a component to see what it does and which line supplies it.

Track & hangers

Carries the entire weight of the leaf and sets how it runs. The track is fixed to structure — not to the finish — and the hangers are matched to the leaf weight.

The part that decides whether the door still slides properly in five years. Under-specifying it is the most common reason a sliding opening gets warranty attention.

Sliding leaf

The same wood or hollow-metal construction used on a swing opening, prepped instead for hanger hardware and an edge pull rather than hinges and a lockset.

Wood or steel is still your choice here — sliding does not force a material, and the finish can match the swing doors around it.

Pocket frame

The concealed cavity the leaf slides into, framed so the wall stays straight and the door has a true path. Supplied knock-down, half knock-down or ready-made.

Buying the pocket as a manufactured frame is what stops a bowed wall becoming a door that binds — the failure that is effectively unfixable once the wall is closed.

Floor guide

Keeps the bottom of the leaf in plane without carrying its weight. A sliding door has no threshold — this is what stops it swinging out of line.

Small, cheap, and the item most often left off a schedule. Its absence is what makes a new sliding door feel loose.
